Ingredients
- 1 c warm water
- 2 Tbsp yeast
- 6 to 7 c flour
- 1 c milk
- Dash of salt
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 3 to 4 Tbsp of oil or melted (and cooled) margarine or shortening
Instructions
- Put 1 c. of warm water plus 1 Tbsp sugar in a mixing bowl. Add 2 Tbsp of yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes.
- Add 3 c. of flour, 1 c of milk, dash of salt, 2 Tbsp of sugar and 3-4 Tbsp of oil or melted (and cooled) margarine or shortening. Stir 50 times clockwise, then 50 times counter-clockwise.
- Add another 3-4 cups of flour and mix until the dough forms a good ball. Turn dough out of the bowl onto a floured surface and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, knead the dough for 5-10 minutes.
- Let rise in a greased bowl for about an hour (it should double in size). Punch down the dough. Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes. Divide into two equal parts and shape into loaves. Place in loaf pans and back at 425* for about 25-30 minutes.
